Rovers’ Very Old Boys Lord It Over City
Beacon Hill’s first season of over 60s Walking Football drew to a close last weekend, well actually Monday lunchtime as the League assumes we’re all retired! A year of getting used to the rules ended on a high with a 1-0 win over Chelmsford City, the goal coming from a fierce free kick by Merf Roberts (honestly, who writes this stuff?!). Great Wakering’s 2-0 win over Rovers secured their runners-up spot before a last minute Grays Athletic equaliser denied Hill another win after golden slipper winner Roger Digby had added to his season’s total.
The Men’s Teams are on a big recruitment push: Thursday training sessions now have an open invite, 7.45-9.00 at Plume’s 3G. We’re not alone with this player shortage at the moment and our League’s are being very helpful with fixtures as they are aware of the need to help clubs through this period as they’ve lost too many teams already. If anyone knows of any player who might be able to help out, even on a short term basis, call the squads’ general manager John Plumb on 07784 040676. It is the same in the Women’s game. Rovers match last Sunday was cancelled as the oppo, Hashtag Utd Ladies, have folded leaving Hill’s players frustrated at a lack of football but at least that takes one relegation space out already as the team strives to cement their Premier Division status after promotion last season.
On the pitch Beacon’s Vets lead the way after a 3-0 home win over rivals White Notley put them top of Div 3(A) of the Essex Veterans’ League. Hill’s Men’s Reserves had an excellent 4-1 win at Fleet whilst the ‘A’s went down 1-4 at Rayleigh Town. School half –term meant a reduced fixture list for Hill’s Youth Teams: the 13s kept their excellent
run going with a 4-1 home victory over Hutton, the 10s lost 0-3 a Harold Wood whilst the 11s played a very skilful Hashtag Utd u12 Girls team and were pleased to run out winners by the only goal of the game.
This Saturday there are no home fixtures but the Clubroom will be very busy with the Club’s Halloween Party, for details contact Ryan on 07757 764351. Supporters wanting their Hill football fix can catch some youth teams in the morning before Rovers’ Women host Chelmsford City, 2pm ko.
